Light Resin Transfer Molding (LRTM) technique is considered to be a good alternative regarding
the production of composite parts with respect to traditional techniques such as hand and spray lay up. With
LRTM composite parts are produced with standard quality and VOC emissions are considerably reduced.
However, the introduction of this relatively new technique is hindered in several areas due to the increased
mold construction cost and low processing times. In this paper, the alternative of reducing composites
production cost using heated molds is investigated. However, this process is not straightforward and numerical
optimization is used to compute the optimal solution. Interesting numerical examples are presented and
discussed.
